Monitor a competitor's pricing page for changes (and skip the false alerts)

· by · 4 min read

Competitors change their pricing pages quietly: a new tier, a removed free plan, a feature moved up a level. Careers pages tell you what they are building next. Policy and terms pages change before the announcement. Watching a handful of these pages is cheap intelligence, as long as the alerts mean something.

Pick pages, not sites

Watch the exact page: /pricing, /careers, /terms, a changelog or a status page. A home page changes every time the marketing team swaps a banner; a pricing page changes when the price does.

Text, not pixels

Screenshot comparisons flag layout shifts, rotating images and cookie banners. Comparing the page text removes most of that noise and gives you the actual lines added and removed. Visual diffs are worth it only when the change you care about is visual.

Two of four are not watchable as pages, and that is useful to know before you rely on an alert. When a site blocks automated readers or points to an API, use the API or the site's own email alerts; a polite monitor should not try to get around the block.

Try it: check a page now (free)

Route alerts where you work

Send each change to a webhook: a Slack or Discord incoming webhook, or a Zapier, Make or n8n trigger that files it in a sheet or a ticket. Or subscribe to the RSS feed in your reader. One watch per page and one channel per topic keeps it readable.

How often?

Daily is enough for pricing, policies and job listings. Status and tender pages benefit from checks every few hours.

Shiftmoor watches 3 pages free (daily). Starter is $4.99/month for 25 pages; Pro $12.99/month for 100 pages about every 6 hours. Visualping Personal is $14/month for 10 pages and ChangeTower Lite $12/month for 25 pages daily (list prices checked 8 Oct 2026). Details: free website change monitor compared.
