Replace newspaper3k without rewriting your field mapping
newspaper3k 0.2.8, its latest release on PyPI, dates from 28 September 2018. Inkpluck is a hosted article extractor you call by API. Turn on newspaper3kFields and each record also carries newspaper3k's attribute names (publish_date, top_image, movies, meta_lang, meta_description, meta_keywords, canonical_link, source_url), so code that reads those keys keeps working while you gain Markdown, cleaned author lists, ISO dates and a paywall flag.

Why teams pick Inkpluck
- newspaper3k field names on request, so existing parsing code keeps working.
- Maintained and hosted: no Python dependencies to pin, no server to run.
- Adds Markdown, a cleaned author list, ISO dates, language and a paywall flag.
- RSS feeds with monitor mode replace a newspaper3k build() loop: each new post extracted once.
How it works
- Open Inkpluck on Apify and switch on "Add newspaper3k field names".
- Send the same URLs your script used to pass to newspaper3k's Article.
- Read publish_date, top_image and the other keys as before, from the API response.
FAQ
Why not keep newspaper3k?
It still works on some sites, but its latest release is from 2018. Inkpluck is maintained, hosted and returns the same field names when you ask for them.
Why not newspaper4k or trafilatura?
They are free Python libraries and good choices if you want to run your own code. Inkpluck is for teams that would rather call an API and pay $0.001 per article than maintain a scraper.
Does it do NLP like keywords and summary?
No. newspaper3k's nlp() keywords and summary are not reproduced; meta_keywords carries the page's own tags.
