How to check whether your HTS code or its duty rate changed
Short answer
Look up the code on hts.usitc.gov and note the revision named at the top (for example 2026 HTS Revision 22). The USITC publishes a change record with each revision; search it for your 8-digit code. Three things can change: the rate columns (general, special, column 2), the Chapter 99 actions that point at your code (Section 301 and other additional duties), and the line itself, which can be split, renumbered or deleted. If the code is gone, find its successor in the change record before your next entry.
- Open hts.usitc.gov and search the 8-digit code; note the revision in use.
- Compare general, special and column 2 rates with what you used on your last entry.
- Check Chapter 99 for headings that name your code (Section 301 lists and four-year-review increases).
- If the code no longer exists, read the revision's change record for its successor.
- Set up an alert so the next revision is checked for you.
