What is an NHTSA campaign number?
NHTSA's ID for a safety recall, such as 26V606000: the two-digit year, a letter for the recall type and a sequence number.
The letter shows what is recalled: V for a vehicle recall, E for equipment, T for tires and C for child restraints. The digits after it are a sequence within that year, often shown with a dash (26V-606).
The manufacturer gives the same recall its own number on the owner letter; dealers look it up by that number. Quoting both avoids confusion.
