How to find what is trending on Google right now (30 countries) and turn it into a captioned short

· by · 6 min read

Timely content wins because it answers a search people are making right now. Google publishes those searches per country in its Trending now list, but the page shows one country at a time and forgets what trended this morning. Here is how to watch many countries at once, pick a topic, and publish a short about it the same day.

Swellmeter reads Google's public Trending now feed for 30 countries about every 15 minutes and keeps every snapshot. Three calls cover most needs:

Try it: searches trending in several countries now (free)

In Python:

import requests
r = requests.get("https://swellmeter-api.cybermaxtools.com/api/global", timeout=30).json()
for t in r["results"][:5]:
    print(t["query"], t["countryCount"], ", ".join(t["countries"]))

On 1 October 2026 at 07:42 UTC the cross-country list looked like this:

SearchCountriesWhere
india vs sri lanka10AU, ES, IE, KR, NG, NL, NZ, PT, SG, ZA
ind vs sl6CA, IE, PT, SE, SG, ZA
argentina vs bolivia5BR, IE, NZ, PH, SG
argentina - bolivia4BR, CL, CO, MX
bangladesh vs pakistan3IE, NZ, SG

Sport dominates mornings like this one. The useful pattern is the spread: a cricket semi-final trending in ten countries is a topic for a global account, while a search trending in one country is a local opportunity.

2. Pick a topic you can actually add to

Trending is not the same as relevant. Before you film anything:

  1. Filter to your niche (a word list on query and the news titles is enough to start).
  2. Check firstSeenToday and snapshotsToday: a search that appeared an hour ago and keeps showing up is rising; one that has been there since midnight may be fading.
  3. Open the news links to get the facts right. Speed does not excuse errors.

Free keys give 50 calls a day; a $5 pack is 1,500 calls that never expire, enough for two calls an hour (eight countries) for about a month (SerpApi's Starter is $25 for 1,000 searches, read 1 Oct 2026).

3. Turn it into a short with captions

Many people watch short videos with the sound off, so burned-in captions carry the message. A quick workflow:

  1. Record 20-45 seconds: the hook in the first two seconds, one fact, one takeaway.
  2. Transcribe word by word, then fix names and numbers: speech models often miss player names and scores.
  3. Burn the captions in with a bold, high-contrast style, placed above the platform's own buttons, and crop to 9:16.
  4. Export an SRT as well for platforms that accept caption files.

Subtwine does steps 2-4 in your browser with Whisper (nothing is uploaded): a line editor to fix any word, four styles, a 9:16 crop and MP4 + SRT export. Videos up to 60 seconds at 720p are free; Pro is $9 for 30 days or $12 a month, with no per-video credits (Submagic starts at $12 a month billed yearly for 45 videos, read 1 Oct 2026).
