What if you had bought Bitcoin? Work it out, with the drop on the way

Updated 2026-11-02 · Planners and templates · by CyberMax

Short answer

Find the daily closing price on the day you would have bought and the latest closing price. Coins = amount / then price; value now = coins x latest price. Then find the biggest fall from a high along the way, because that is the part most people don't sit through. Example from real closes: $1,000 on 31 Oct 2021 was worth $1,262 on 31 Oct 2026 (+26.2%), after falling 77% from its high.

  1. Pick the date and amount.
  2. Coins = amount / closing price that day.
  3. Value now = coins x yesterday's close.
  4. Worst drop = biggest fall from any high before today.

The maths

coins     = 1,000 / 61,359.44 = 0.016297 BTC
value now = 0.016297 x 77,429.98 = $1,262
