How to play Sled Volt, the free 3D sled runner
Short answer
Sled Volt is a free 3D sled runner in the browser. Swipe left or right (or use the arrow keys) to change lanes, swipe up to jump and down to tuck under branches. Fill the frost meter, then double-tap or press Space for VOLT to smash through everything. Two quick stumbles and the Rimehorn catches you.
- Open Sled Volt and press PLAY. It runs on phones, tablets, Chromebooks and PCs with no download.
- Change lanes with a left or right swipe, the arrow keys or A and D.
- Jump logs, fences, rocks and snowballs with an up swipe, the up arrow or W. Jump onto grind rails to ride over everything below them.
- Tuck under branches and icicles with a down swipe, the down arrow or S. Tucking on a straight is also 12% faster.
- Fill the frost meter with frost crystals, then double-tap (or press Space) for VOLT: a few seconds of speed where you smash through every obstacle.
- Grab power-ups: magnet, shield, double score, glider (lifts you to the sky lane) and mystery gifts.
- Finish your 3 missions to raise your Mission Level, which multiplies your score on every run.
The four biomes
Every 1,500 metres the mountain changes: a morning Pine Forest, a Frozen Village with sledders and snowballs, the Ice Caves at dusk with ice tunnels and crystals, and Aurora Night under the northern lights. Yellow warning signs mark the special sections ahead: ski lifts, avalanches, chasm bridges, tunnels and frozen lakes.
How to escape the Rimehorn
Clipping a corner or hitting a snow drift is a stumble, not a crash. After your first stumble the Rimehorn, a shaggy snow beast with ice horns, chases you for about 7 seconds. Stumble again in that time and it catches you, so ride clean until it falls back. A shield absorbs one hit of any kind.
Daily Run, ghosts and challenge links
The Daily Run is the same course for every player that day, with a leaderboard; every posted score is checked by replaying the run on the server. Race your best puts your own ghost beside you on the course of your best run. After any run, send a challenge link: your friend sleds the same course against your real ghost.
