What is a recall owner notification letter?
The recall letter mailed to registered owners, due no later than 60 days after the manufacturer files its Part 573 report.
49 CFR Part 577 sets the content, including a standard heading, a clear description of the defect and the risk, and instructions for getting the free remedy. The 60-day deadline means a recall can be public for weeks before an owner's letter arrives; a VIN check shows it straight away.
