How to track US federal AI policy documents and open comment periods

Updated 2026-11-06 · Data and API builders · by CyberMax

Short answer

Federal agencies publish rules, notices and requests for comment in the Federal Register. The Policywren dataset tracks AI-related documents: load "open_comment_periods" to see which comment deadlines are coming up, and "documents" for the full list.

  1. pip install datasets
  2. Load "open_comment_periods" and sort by closing date.
  3. Load "documents" for every tracked document with its agency and type.
  4. Open the Federal Register link before you comment or cite.

Copy-paste code

from datasets import load_dataset

ds = load_dataset("CyberMax-tools/policywren-us-ai-policy-tracker", "open_comment_periods", split="train")
df = ds.to_pandas()
print(len(df), "rows")
print(df.head())
