How to get SEC Form 8-K events into pandas for research

Updated 2026-10-28 · Data and API builders · by CyberMax

Short answer

An 8-K reports a material event, and each filing lists item numbers (for example 1.01 material agreements, 2.02 results, 5.02 officer departures and appointments). The Eventwren dataset has an "events" table (one row per item) and a "filings" table; load them and filter by item number.

  1. pip install datasets
  2. Load the "events" config for one row per 8-K item.
  3. Filter by item number (5.02, 1.01, 2.02...).
  4. Join to "filings" for the filing link and date.

Copy-paste code

Data: CyberMax dataset on Hugging Face; load it with the datasets library (pip install datasets)

from datasets import load_dataset

ds = load_dataset("CyberMax-tools/eventwren-sec-8k-events", "events", split="train")
df = ds.to_pandas()
print(len(df), "rows")
print(df.head())
