How to get ClinicalTrials.gov study records into pandas

Updated 2026-10-30 · Data and API builders · by CyberMax

Short answer

ClinicalTrials.gov publishes study registrations through a public API. The Trialtide dataset snapshots them into one "studies" table; load it and filter by condition, phase and overall status. It is registry data for research, not medical advice.

  1. pip install datasets
  2. Load the default config (studies).
  3. Filter by condition, phase and overall status.
  4. Check the snapshot date in the dataset card before citing numbers.

Copy-paste code

Data: CyberMax dataset on Hugging Face; load it with the datasets library (pip install datasets)

from datasets import load_dataset

ds = load_dataset("CyberMax-tools/trialtide-clinicaltrials-registry", "default", split="train")
df = ds.to_pandas()
print(len(df), "rows")
print(df.head())
