What is a quote (estimate)?

Invoicing, time cards and scheduling glossary

A priced offer sent before the work, listing what will be done and for how much, usually with a date it stays valid until.

"Estimate" often signals the final price may change if the job does; "quote" usually means a fixed price for the described scope. Either way, the same line items should flow into the invoice once the client agrees, so nothing is retyped and the totals match.

A receipt is the last step: it confirms payment was received, with the date and payment method.
