What is the MCP Registry?
The official, open catalogue of MCP servers at registry.modelcontextprotocol.io, where publishers list a server.json describing how to install or connect each server.
Server names are namespaced, and the publisher must prove control of the namespace: io.github.<user>/… names through GitHub, reverse-DNS names such as com.example/… through a DNS record or an HTTP file on that domain. Client apps and other directories can read the registry to discover servers.
A server.json lists packages for local servers and remotes (type and URL, plus any headers such as an optional API key) for hosted ones.
