Time card calculator for warehouse night shifts and Saturday overtime

Warehouse nights run 10 pm to 6:30 am, and peak season adds a Saturday. Night shifts that cross midnight and pay differentials are the two things that trip up a time card. Here is a real week.

What matters for warehouses

Night shifts: one shift, one day

A 10 pm to 6:30 am shift is recorded on the night it started. Splitting it at midnight can move hours into the wrong workweek and hide overtime.

A night differential raises the overtime rate

If you pay extra per hour for nights, that premium is part of the regular rate, so overtime must be paid at 1.5 × the blended rate, not 1.5 × the base wage.

Overtime is per workweek

Under the FLSA, the Saturday peak shift is overtime only for the hours that take the week past 40.

Worked example

Five night shifts across midnight plus a peak-season Saturday, $19.25/hour base, weekly overtime after 40 h at 1.5×.

How to set it up in Hoursprig

  1. Enter the base rate and the week.
  2. Type night shifts with the morning clock-out (10p to 6:30a).

FAQ

Does a night shift that ends Saturday morning count for Friday?

Hoursprig counts it on the day it started, Friday.

Is Saturday work overtime?

Not by itself under federal law; only hours over 40 in the workweek are overtime.

How does a $1.50 night differential change overtime?

It is part of the regular rate. For a week of only night hours at $19.25 + $1.50, overtime is 1.5 × $20.75 = $31.125 an hour.
