Number puzzle API with solutions, as JSON or printable SVG
Get original number puzzles for your app, worksheet generator or AI agent: Cage Grids (4x4 easy, 5x5 medium, 6x6 hard, each with exactly one solution), Target puzzles (reach a number with + - x / from six numbers) and Brick Pyramids. Each call returns the puzzle, the rules and the solution as JSON, or a printable SVG with or without the answer. Use a seed for repeatable puzzles or daily=true for the same puzzle for everyone today. A remote MCP server exposes the same thing to AI agents.
Three real API responses (seed "demo"), shortened
| Request | Puzzle | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| /v1/puzzle?type=target&level=easy&seed=demo | Numbers 3, 6, 6, 7, 7, 15; target 28 | 7 + 6 = 13; 15 + 13 = 28 (one valid route) |
| /v1/puzzle?type=cage&level=easy&seed=demo | 4x4 grid, 7 cages: 8+, 1−, 2÷, 12×, 5+, 7+, 1− | rows 1243 / 3124 / 2431 / 4312 (unique) |
| /v1/puzzle?type=pyramid&level=medium&seed=demo | 5 rows; bottom row 3, ?, ?, 7, ? | bottom 3, 10, 10, 7, 10; top 141 (unique) |

Why teams pick Sumbloom API
- Commercial use included from $5/month; API Ninjas does not allow commercial use on its free tier.
- Every Cage Grid and Brick Pyramid is checked by a solver to have exactly one solution, and solutions come with each puzzle.
- JSON for apps or a printable SVG for worksheets, with or without the answer.
- A free tier every day (50 puzzles), plus a remote MCP server for AI agents on the same key.
Try it in one call
curl 'https://sumbloom.cybermaxtools.com/v1/puzzle?type=cage&level=medium&seed=abc'How it works
- Call /v1/puzzle with a type (target, cage or pyramid) and level (easy, medium, hard).
- Add seed=... for a repeatable puzzle or daily=true for today's shared puzzle.
- Use /v1/puzzle.svg for a printable version; add solution=true for the answer sheet. Send your key as x-api-key when you need more than 50 a day.
FAQ
Is there a free math puzzle API?
Yes: 50 puzzles a day per IP with no key and no card, 30 calls a minute.
Why not API Ninjas?
API Ninjas has many APIs under one key, but its Sudoku API is sudoku only and commercial use starts at $39/month. Sumbloom gives three puzzle types with solutions, commercial use from $5/month.
Why not a puzzle book generator like KDPEasy?
KDPEasy builds whole books for KDP from $19/month. Sumbloom is an API: one puzzle per call, as data or SVG, for your own app or layout.
Can I print the puzzles?
Yes: the SVG endpoint gives a print-ready puzzle and, with solution=true, its answer.
Limits?
Puzzles come from a fixed bank of 1,800 solver-checked puzzles, so with many calls you will see repeats. No sudoku, crossword or word search.
